ClassPass
Scan-in, scan-out attendance for any room students come and go from.
ClassPass is a scan-in, scan-out attendance log for rooms students come and go from during the day, such as the library, a study hall or the nurse's office. A student scans their ID card at a tablet or laptop and the visit is recorded with the time. Staff can see who is in the room right now and pull reports by date, grade or student, instead of keeping a paper sign-in sheet.
For libraries, study halls, nurse's offices, learning centers.
All 20 features
12 of them can be tried in the demo.
Check-in station
- Scan any student ID
- Uses the device camera to read barcodes and QR codes in 17 formats, including Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, UPC-A and QR. Try it: Scan any student ID
- Self-serve and staff modes
- Students scan themselves at a kiosk, or a staff member runs the station for them. Try it: Self-serve and staff modes
- Always the right button
- Each student's current status decides which button is offered. Nobody can check in twice or check out without checking in first. Try it: Always the right button
- Duplicate-scan guard
- Holding a card in front of the camera won't log it twice; repeat reads within two seconds are ignored.
- Ready for the next student
- A confirmation shows for a few seconds, then the camera is ready again.
- Manual fallback
- Forgot the card? Type the ID, or search by name with as few as two letters. Try it: Manual fallback
Corrections
- Manual log
- Staff add a missed check-in or check-out with the date and time it really happened. Try it: Manual log
- Scan or manual, always recorded
- Every entry records whether it came from a scan or was typed by staff, and in which mode. Try it: Scan or manual, always recorded
Reports
- Password-protected reports
- Student history sits behind a separate reports password. Access ends when the browser tab is closed. Try it: Password-protected reports
- Filters
- Filter by date range, event type, mode, grade, student and current status. Try it: Filters
- Who's out right now
- The current-status filter looks at each student's latest event across all dates, not just the date range on screen. Try it: Who's out right now
- Check in or out from the report
- Fix a record straight from the results table. The button only appears on each student's most recent row. Try it: Check in or out from the report
- CSV download
- Export exactly what the filters show, for spreadsheets or records. Try it: CSV download
- Email a report
- Opens your email app with a summary of the filtered results already written. Try it: Email a report
Data and setup
- Google Sheets as the database
- The student roster and the event log live in a Google Sheet your office already knows how to read, sort and share.
- Automatic log cleanup
- Old entries are removed after a set number of days (7 by default), so the log stays small and private.
- Your time zone
- Every timestamp is recorded in the school's local time.
- Barcode test page
- A built-in page for checking that a new card printer or camera reads your ID cards before go-live.
Security
- Rate limiting
- Each device is limited to a sensible number of requests per minute, which stops scripts from flooding the system.
- Input checks
- Student IDs and search terms are checked and cleaned on the server before anything is looked up or saved.
Works with
- Google Sheets: the roster and the visit log
- Student ID cards with a barcode or QR code (17 formats)
- Any tablet or laptop with a camera
How student data is handled
- The student roster and the visit log are kept in a Google Sheet your school owns and can open, sort and share.
- Student history sits behind a separate reports password.
- A cleanup removes log entries older than a set number of days (7 by default, adjustable).
- IDs and search terms are checked on the server, and each device's requests are rate limited.
Common questions
Do we need barcode scanners?
No. ClassPass reads barcodes and QR codes with the camera on a tablet or laptop. A built-in test page checks that your ID cards scan before you go live.
What if a student forgets their card?
Staff can type the ID or search by name with as few as two letters. A visit that was missed can be added afterwards with the real date and time.
Can a student check in twice by mistake?
No. Each student's current status decides which button is offered, so nobody can check in twice or check out without checking in first. Repeat reads of the same card within two seconds are ignored.
Where is the data kept, and for how long?
In a Google Sheet your school owns. Old log entries are removed after a set number of days, 7 by default, and you can choose a different period.
